Sidetracks; Graduation Day

Time really flies. It seemed as though just yesterday we were simply entering the school for the first time, and getting used to the new environment. It seemed as though just yesterday, we were merely strangers meeting for the first time, some old friends and others which were new, we had all entered the school at the same time, and now we are leaving at the same time as well. A huge wave of nostalgia swept across the hall this morning as we all sat down through the graduation ceremony. We have all clearly changed over the course of four to five years in the school. The ceremony may have dragged on alittle, but it only meant more time for us to sit as an entire family before leaving to chart our own paths in the nearing future. Did you pay attention to the Guest Of Honour's speech? Heh, I am sure some of you didn't, but it's alright, here's what you missed out anyway. He said that we should "dream big", but that's two words short of a proper sentence. To complete it, I think we should all "dream big, and make realities".

I am sure many of my friends already have ambitions, I have my own goals set as well, but really, will our dreams waver over the uncertain future? Our principal Mdm Heng wasn't speaking through her hat when she said that the future might be bleak for all of us. In a competitive world, and the economy recession that she kept mentioning, it will be a tough life for us if we want to stick to pursuing dreams. After all, if you really want a good job in the future, it might mean sacrificing things which are precious to you, including your dreams. When that time comes, will we make the right decisions? Or perhaps, we might simply give up along the way? Not wanting to sound negative, but it is the truth of this world, and we need to overcome it. I am sure all of us can make it if we just did our best. Don't give up everybody, because it is the last lap of the journey. As the teachers have said before, they will be waiting for us at the finish line. This is our race, and let's give it our damn best to run. When we run, we will run together, and when we fall, we help each other, and let's cross the finish line together. To all my friends in Greenridge Secondary School, LET'S GO FOR IT!
